Verifying the calibration of a manual one-position keratometer
نویسنده
چکیده
A keratometer, also known as an ophthalmometer, is a diagnostic instrument for measuring the curvature of the anterior surface of the cornea, which is used to assess the amount and axis of astigmatism. A very popular and reliable type of manual, one-position keratometer (commonly known as a Bausch and Lombtype keratometer) is shown in Figure 1. Although this type of keratometer rarely goes out of calibration, it should be checked for accuracy at least once a year.

Which Keratometer is Most Reliable for Correcting Astigmatism with Toric Intraocular Lenses?
PURPOSE To evaluate the accuracy of preoperative keratometers used in cataract surgery with toric intraocular lens (IOL). METHODS Twenty-five eyes received an AcrySof toric IOL implantation. Four different keratometric methods, a manual keratometer, an IOL master, a Pentacam and an auto keratometer, were performed preoperatively in order to evaluate preexisting corneal astigmatism. Difference...
متن کاملComparison of Manual Keratometer with Autokeratometer
The study was done to compare the corneal curvature readings obtained by Baush and Lomb manual keratometer with that of Nidek autokeratometer ARK-30 to find if either was superior to the other. Curvature of central 3mm corneal zone was measured in horizontal and vertical meridian with Bausch and Lomb manual keratometer and Nidek autokeratometer ARK30 in 67 eyes of 52 patients between the age gr...
متن کامل A novel approach to automatic position calibration for pixelated crystals in gamma imaging
Introduction: The position estimation in gamma detection system will have constant misplacements which can be corrected in the calibration procedure. In the pixelated crystal uniformly irradiation of detector will produce irregular shape due to position estimation errors. This image is called flood field image and is used to calibrate the position estimation. In this work we pr...
متن کاملReliable keratometry with a new hand held surgical keratometer: calibration of the keratoscopic astigmatic ruler.
AIM Some surgeons consider hand held surgical keratometers unreliable. This may be due to incorrect use through not realising that the distance that the keratometer is held from the cornea influences the shape of the image. When a keratometer is held closer to the astigmatic cornea, the elliptical image will appear more circular, particularly for larger degrees of astigmatism. However, the kera...
متن کاملIOLMaster versus Manual Keratometry after Photorefractive Keratectomy
PURPOSE To compare keratometric measurements using a Javal type manual keratometer with IOLMaster in eyes undergoing photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) for myopia. METHODS In this comparative case series, we studied patients aged 21 to 27 years scheduled for myopic PRK. Keratometry was performed preoperatively and three months after the procedure using a Javal type manual keratometer and the I...
